CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: The University of Sindh invites applications from Experts/Consultants for conducting short-term research studies and hiring/engagements of suitable candidates having domicile of Sindh (domicile of Thatta/Sujawal and Jamshoro will be preferable) for the following positions on a contract basis in a marine research project titled:

“Establishment of Oceanographic Survey Unit: Climate Change, Freshwater Scarcity and Pollution Impact Assessment on Geomorphology, Mangrove, Fisheries and Wildlife Occurring in Coastal and Marine Waters of District Thatta”

This project is funded by the Petroleum Marine Development Committee (PMDC), Thatta.

Positions Available:

1. Marine Fisheries Expert

• No. of Positions: 1
• Qualification: M.Phil/Ph.D. in Freshwater Biology and Fisheries/Marine Biology/Marine Science
• Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research studies on biodiversity and conservation of marine fisheries, marine mammals, marine turtles, Pakistan’s cetaceans, and coral diversity.

2. Geologist/Oceanographer Expert

• No. of Positions: 1
• Qualification: M.Phil/Ph.D. in Geology
• Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research studies on the characterization of sediments in different habitats, groundwater intrusion, coastal land erosion, and degradation.

3. Mangrove Specialist

• No. of Positions: 1
• Qualification: M.Phil/Ph.D. in Freshwater Biology & Fisheries/Marine Biology/Marine Science/Botany with specialization in mangrove forest
• Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research studies on mangrove conservation, identifying mudflats for plantation, and nursing propagation of mangrove cultivation.

4. Coastal GIS & Environment Expert

• No. of Positions: 1
• Qualification: M.Phil/Ph.D. in Agriculture Science/Environment Engineering/Geography/Geology
• Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research studies on aquatic environments, climate change, GIS modeling, and remote sensing in DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction) perspectives.

5. Research Fellow (Enrolled in M.Phil/Ph.D. degree program)

• No. of Positions: 1
• Qualification: BS (4-year) 1st Class in Freshwater Biology and Fisheries/Marine Biology/Marine Science
• Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research studies on biodiversity and conservation of marine fisheries, marine mammals, marine turtles, Pakistan’s cetaceans, and coral diversity.

6. Field Assistant/Helper

• No. of Positions: 4
• Qualification: Literate
• Responsibilities:
  • Assist researchers in fieldwork in coastal and marine areas.

Additional Information:

1. The application should include a covering letter, CV, and relevant documents.
