Job description:

To arrange for tobacco plantation and production in the given area as per the Depot’s requirements
Ensure implementation of Advanced Agronomic practices required for the production of quality leaf
Supervision of crop at all stages to get quality tobacco
Supply of targeted quantity to the Buying Court
Education as well as motivation of farmers for adopting Best practices
Ensure implementation of EHS aspects at the depot as well as at farmers’ level
Active involvement in Afforestation programme of the Depot
Active support and contribution to various projects going on in the company like MRP II, ISO, etc
Keep an eye on the competition activities in his area to provide information to the line manager about the competition intelligence and enable him to take necessary strategic decisions
PR with all concerned external parties to ensure smooth operations

Procurement of seed from Leaf Agronomy Section as per the requirement and onward distribution to farmers

Farmers’ registration as well as arrangement for seed sowing
Periodic arrangement of growers’ meetings/workshops in his area for conveying the company’s message regarding the volume as well as quality requirements & education of growers
Ensure plantation of a suitable crop size in his area of jurisdiction to avoid shortage/surplus during the buying season
Timely finalization of seedbed, crop & yield assessment surveys to enable the management in getting to a real crop size
Provide crop extension services to contracted growers for crop improvement, safe use of agro chemicals, implementation of Best practices, better curing techniques
Take guidelines from the in charge wherever it is required to enhance knowledge about the crop husbandry practices & then their implementation at farmer’s level
Farmers’ categorisation as per the format for record and reference
Keep an eye on the competition activities in the area of jurisdiction
Afforestation
Arrangements for nursery raising
Distribution of saplings to the interested parties and ensure their planting as per the recommendations
Selection of better species
Training of the planting parties about post planting care to ensure maximum survival
Post plantation surveys
Record keeping in PC based database

Farming community is less flexible to the change, there is low literacy rate among the tobacco farmers due to which they are slow to adopt advance technology for crop production
Highly labour-intensive crop due to shortage of labour as the new generation of farmers is more inclined towards urbanisation where better prospects of livelihood are available
Costly crop inputs, therefore arrangement of bank loans for solving the financial problems of farmers
Surplus/short crop size & its adverse consequences on growers
Local Government Nazims & Farmer Associations Office Bearers for their non-genuine demands
Unethical practices by competition
Adverse weather conditions & natural calamities like floods, hails, as the afectee from natural calamity will not be interested to plant a crop, which is so weather prone.

Essential RequirementsKnowledge, Skills & Experience

Agriculture Graduate with 1 – 2 years of experience.
Knowledge about tobacco production, curing, grading and buying
Job related PC knowledge
Job required competence in extension techniques
Arrange plantation and supervision of Project plots
Introduction of Best practices through method/result demonstration
Seedbed, plantation and production surveys
Understanding and implementation of Environment, Health & Safety policies
Fair knowledge of Co’s job related controls procedures and instructions
Abreast with the competition strengths & weaknesses
Interpersonal skills for communication, negotiation, training/coaching and motivation
Commitment with the job
