Faculty Opening DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION DESIGN Head of Department

The Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture is a premier, degree-awarding institution in Karachi, Pakistan that provides education in art, design and architecture. IVS invites applications from eligible candidates for an open faculty position in our Communication Design Department.

The Department of Communication Design at IVS offers a four-year undergraduate degree programme encompassing graphic design, media, and interaction design. A commitment to research, analysis, innovation and creativity underpins an integrated approach to design in the programme. It also aims to inculcate social and cultural sensitivity among students through socially engaged projects within the curriculum.

We are looking for a full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor rank who will additionally take over the responsibility as the Head of Department for a period of three years. The rotational system for the position of Head ensures fresh perspectives and opportunities for leadership within the department.

Core Responsibilities:

As the Head of Department, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Department of Communication Design, ensuring high standards in teaching, research, and professional practice.
As a full-time faculty member, you are expected to teach studio and theory courses relevant to your skill set, mentor students, contribute actively to curriculum development in the department and to institutional activities, and actively pursue opportunities for research, publication, and scholarly/creative practice.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in arts, design, or a related field, and prior teaching and professional experience. Candidates with experience in a leadership position will be preferred.

Required Skills:

Effective management skills to oversee department operations, including resource allocation and strategic planning.
Ability to develop the curriculum and review courses to ensure high educational standards.
An interdisciplinary approach to design teaching and learning.
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, including a willingness to be a team player and mentor.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
