CONSULTANT – HISTOPATHOLOGY

LOCATION: DR. ZIAUDDIN HOSPITAL, HEAD OFFICE, NORTH NAZIMABAD KARACHI

JOB SUMMARY:

To provide high-quality diagnostic Histopathology and Cytopathology services in accordance with international standards and institutional policies.
To contribute towards the development and strengthening of a state-of-the-art Histopathology laboratory within available resources through quality improvement initiatives, implementation of advanced diagnostic techniques, academic activities, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
To support teaching, training, research, and continuous professional development of residents, technologists, and other laboratory staff while contributing to departmental growth and revenue enhancement through academic and clinical excellence.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for developing, reviewing, and updating departmental policies, procedures, manuals, and SOPs in compliance with institutional and accreditation requirements.
Ensure accurate, timely, and quality reporting of Histopathology, Cytopathology, and frozen section cases.
Provide diagnostic consultation and clinicopathological correlation with clinicians and other healthcare professionals as required.
Coordinate and participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
Supervise laboratory workflow and provide technical guidance to residents, technologists, and laboratory staff.
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, tumor boards, seminars, workshops, and CME activities.
Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training, and academic assignments as required by the university/institution.
Contribute to departmental research activities, publications, and academic development initiatives.
Perform any other departmental responsibilities assigned by the Chairperson / Lab Director from time to time.
Support implementation of CAP/JCI/ISO or other applicable accreditation standards where relevant.
Contribute towards the introduction and development of new diagnostic tests and advanced Histopathology services in consultation with the Chairperson / Lab Director.

KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCES:

Sound knowledge of current advancements, diagnostic criteria, and best practices in Histopathology and Cytopathology.
Familiarity with modern Histopathology techniques including Immunohistochemistry (IHC), frozen section, special stains, and molecular applications where applicable.
1. Strong understanding of laboratory quality standards, accreditation requirements, biosafety, and quality assurance practices.
Competence in interpretation and reporting of surgical pathology and cytology specimens.
Effective communication, teaching, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical and academic environment.
Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and digital reporting practices will be an added advantage.

REQUIREMENTS:

Academic Qualifications: MBBS / FCPS / FRC Path / Diplomate American Board / Equivalent.
Working Experience: At least 02 to 05 years related experience.
